Lizanne Ceconi is a partner at JW, Chair of the Family Law Department, and a founding partner of C&C, where she devotes her practice to complex matrimonial and family law matters through litigation, mediation, and arbitration. She frequently handles matters involving complex executive compensation and perquisites, business valuations, family wealth management, and creative parenting plans, among other family law related matters. She is a fierce advocate who works diligently to resolve her cases but is unafraid to litigate when the right cases call for it.
Lizanne began her career as a sole practitioner and has never forgotten the importance of knowing her clients and understanding their individual needs. She is practical and creative in pursuing her clients’ goals and priorities. She understands the importance of knowing the details of a client’s case and preparation to get the best results.
Due to her hard work and commitment to the practice, Lizanne received the Saul Tischler Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association for lifetime achievement in the area of family law, the highest award given to a family law practitioner in the state. She received the William J. McCloud Award from the Union County Bar Association in recognition of her outstanding commitment to the Union County Family Part.
Lizanne Ceconi has held numerous leadership roles, including Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section and President of the Union County Bar Association, at the time only the third woman to hold this position in its 103-year history. She was the first woman President of the Summit Bar Association, and the first woman to lead the Barry Croland Northern New Jersey Family Law Inns of Court,
Her past bar activities include appointments to the New Jersey State Bar Association and Union County Bar Association, Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committees, non-political review boards empowered to vet potential judges and prosecutors for appointment and reappointment.
Ms. Ceconi strongly believes in the privacy of clients and their children and was selected to testify before the New Jersey Supreme Court on the issue of confidentiality of family law pleadings in the Family Division.
Since 1993, Ms. Ceconi has been approved by the Administrative Office of the Courts as a certified divorce mediator. She has served also as a Matrimonial Early Settlement Panelist since 1987, volunteering her time in assisting colleagues and litigants in resolving their matrimonial matters and is often asked to serve as a Blue Ribbon Panelist in the most complex matters.
Lizanne Ceconi has lectured extensively for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education, The Barry Croland Northern New Jersey Family Law American Inns of Court, the Virginia A. Long Family Law Inns of Court, the Union County Bar Association and various civic and professional organizations on issues such as basic rights of divorce, mediation, client consultations, expert witnesses, preparation of custody trials, parental alienation, equitable distribution of executive compensation and other prevalent family law topics.
Annually, Ms. Ceconi teaches the incoming Union County Family Part law clerks on the New Jersey Court Rules regarding the child support guidelines and their application for family support orders. She is also a Master of the Virginia A. Long Family Law Inns of Court. Ms. Ceconi has been a member since 1988 of the specially appointed Family Law Committee in Union County established by the Union County Assignment Judge.
Ms. Ceconi served as the President of the Board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) of New Jersey, a non-profit organization advocating for the rights of abused and neglected children. In recognition for her efforts, Ms. Ceconi was honored at the Women’s Leadership Luncheon by CASA of Union County.
She has been recognized by her peers as a Best Lawyer of America in Family Law, a Super Lawyer and Top 50 Women Lawyers of New Jersey’s Women Leaders in the Law.
Admitted to the practice of law in New Jersey in 1982 and in New York in 1989, Ms. Ceconi received her law degree from Seton Hall School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Villanova University. Ms. Ceconi also attended the University of Madrid through Georgetown University.
When Lizanne is not working, she is known for planning great trips with family and friends, especially culinary adventures in Italy.
